Singtel, Bharti Airtel 'looking to acquire majority stake in India's Dish TV'

06 Apr 2019 09:00

By Claudia Chong

SINGTEL and its associate Bharti Airtel are set to make a joint offer for a 60 per cent stake in India's Dish TV for 61.5 billion rupees (S$1.21 billion), according to a report by media outlet CNBC that cited multiple sources.

The deal price will be 55 rupees per share to trigger an open offer, said CNBC. Dish TV is a direct-to-home satellite broadcast company; the acquisition is meant to give tough competition to Indian mobile network operator Reliance Jio Infocomm, reported the outlet.

When contacted by The Business Times, a Singtel spokesman said: "We don't comment on speculation."

In response to queries from CNBC, Dish TV did not comment, while Bharti Airtel declined to comment.
