Company Background
Lereno Bio-Chem Ltd (?LBC?) was incorporated on 7 November 1974 under the name of MAE Engineering (Pte) Ltd. It was initially engaged in providing specialist integrated mechanical and electrical engineering services. It then rose to become one of the leading contractors in its field in Singapore and was listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange (?SESDAQ?) on 3 April 2000.
On 10 February 2007, the company?s shareholders approved the company?s acquisition of a 38 percent stake in Lereno Sdn Bhd (?LSB?), a specialist biodiesel manufacturer in Malaysia. With the acquisition of the single largest stake in LSB as well as the single largest stake in the unique patentable intellectual property for the production of winterized biodiesel used in the Lumut Plant, the company changed its name to Lereno Bio-Chem Ltd with effect from 14 February 2007 and changed its principal activities to that of investment holding company ? biofuel, oleochemical products manufacturing and related business. As a result, the classification of the company on the website of the Singapore Exchange Securities Trading Ltd was changed from Construction sector to Manufacturing sector, sub sector Other manufacturing with effect from 27 April 2008.
LBC is an integrated Bio-Technology and Agricultural products company with key business activities of (1) Biofuels production, (2) Upstream feedstock and other bio-resources development and (3) Downstream oleochemicals and other Byproduct processing and Trading.
LSB?s 60,000 MT/Y plant in Lumut Malaysia is a state-of-the-art plant producing winterized biodiesel, oleochemicals and pharmaceutical grade glycerine. The biodiesel produced by LSB meets the stringent European Union EN14214 and US ASTM D6751-08 specifications including the Cold Soak Filtration standard. Since it commenced production in late 2007, LSB has established itself to be a biodiesel/oleochemical producer that is able to produce quality products from multiple feedstocks sold/selling to major multinationals for use in the biofuels, pharmaceutical and oleochemicals industries.
Since September 2008, with the worldwide reduction in commodities prices and the price of feedstock supplies, its Lumut plant?s business and production have enjoyed substantial all-round improvement correspondingly.
